 'In the dark'

Night time used to be darker. Hence night lights.

For a while, the glowing face of an alarm clock and a wristwatch with radium hands were the only other light.

VCR clocks then brought a new trick. The light stayed on -- even when the machine was off.

Now all manner of machines glow night and day.

Doorbells, phones, stoves, microwaves, smoke detectors.

Rechanging gizmo batteries blink.

And computers add a lot more pinpoints to the firmament.

Powerstrips, modems, network hubs, mice. Night lights? Not needed anymore.

Goodnight!
