'Ess'

Ahh, the Superman S. I can draw it by heart.

Starts with a serif, ends with a bulb. Top heavy. Odd.

For a bit in the 70s it was used for Shelter Records' logo. Flipped.

It was glassed and 3-D-ified for the 78 movie titles.

But in the movie itself the logo was flat -- like in the comics.

In the new movie and the ads, it's 3-D and the bulb's gone.

If you look closely it's textured with cute, tiny S's.

Over-designed? Or super-designed?

In my rush to badmouth the Superman movie logo I didn't research the '78 movie costume.

Turns out that both the '78 movie and the '50s tv show used an 'S' with no bulb on the bottom.

Much like the logo used in the current movie.

I also drew all the logos wrong.

The top serif shouldn't touch the lower right shield edge.

Do these mistakes invalidate my opinion the the new movie's logo is overdone?

Sorta.
